No trip to this area would be complete with a walk or cycle down the Monsal trail.  An 8 1/2 mile  footpath from Blackwell Junction near Buxton to Bakewell and following the route of the old railway line. Past historic buildings like Lime Kilns, through railway tunnels and footpaths off the trail to explore the river or nature reserves.. We have had lots of walks along the Monsal trail but haven't yet finished the main trail as we have been distracted by the many diversions! Fantastic scenery, lovely for walkers, cyclists and dogs :) Below is a video taken by my daughter as she and her partner cycled from Meadow house to the Monsal trail and all the way to Bakewell and back.

Walks by the Monsal Trail

Start point Millers Dale Car park. 10min drive from Peak Dale

1. Chee Dale Nature reserve walk -in pink, Medium difficulty but worth the effort!!

We managed it and Nigel doesn't do difficult walks..probably a couple of hours. Not far in distance , walking along by the river  most the way.

2. Another walk from Millers Dale

Park in car park at Millers dale, walk back up the road and go right through a gate/stile onto footpath and follow footpath along millers dale. Lovely river walk.Walk as far as you like..circular walk back if you go far enough.

3. Walk to Monsal Head,

Drive out from Buxton on A6 past taddington and park in picnic car park off road on the left.  Follow the lovely path along the river to Monsal head past a lovely waterfall. You might find the last climb a bit much and could just turn around rather than the steep climb up to monsal head and down the other side to the bridge, cross the bridge and return to car. the waterfall is by the bridge

4. Wyedale walk

You can also walk from Wyedale (just outside Buxton along the Monsal trail.again beautiful and so different on every step of this trail. From the same car park you can explore Deep Dale too..though we did a long walk from Wye Dale and tried to walk back down Deep Dale but it was closed at the time.
